PROFILE

Jon is a well-rounded student athlete. He attends Caravel Academy in Bear, Delaware. He has been playing quarterback since age 7 and has received numerous honors. Jon is QBA-trained and started as a sophomore in one of the state's elite programs. He has been one of the most efficient passers in Delaware, and helped lead Caravel to victories over several highly ranked opponents, including 2009 State Champion Salesianum. Head Coach Mike Aruanno, who has the highest winning % of Delaware coaches, called Jon 'as good as anyone we've ever had at the position, which is especially impressive considering he is only a sophomore'.

CARAVEL STUNS TOP-RANKED SALESIANUM


Caravel Sophomore QB Jon Welch completed 5-of-8 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-21 upset over Salesianum. Welch hit Wes Garlick with a 13-yard touchdown pass to give Caravel at 21-14 halftime lead. His 41-yard strike to Brandon Cheaton put Caravel ahead 28-21 in the fourth quarter. Welch then hit Jordan Hutchinson for a long gain to setup Keasel Broome's game clinching field goal. Welch was named one of the Prep Sports Delaware Players of the Week. His game winning touchdown pass was the Delaware High School Play of the Week. Welch was also recognized on the Coaches Aid Hot List.
